Joseph Nacchio, the former chief executive officer of Qwest Communications International Inc. convicted of insider trading, may remain free on bail while he appeals, a federal court ruled.

The U.S. Court of Appeals in Denver today granted Nacchio's application for bail, delaying the start of his prison term.  On July 27, U.S. District Judge Edward Nottingham sentenced Nacchio to six years in prison and denied a request for bail pending his appeal of his April conviction on 19 counts of insider trading.

The case is U.S. v. Nacchio, 05-cr-545, U.S. District Court, District of Colorado (Denver).
