CenturyLink announced today a commitment to remain headquartered in Monroe, La., and plans to add 800 new jobs in the state by 2016.

The telecommunications company, which acquired Denver-based Qwest in April, reached an incentive agreement with Louisiana that includes a $14.9 million grant to pay for 50 percent of building or leasing additional headquarters space in Monroe.

The company will also receive a grant of $3.3 million to cover location costs and $1.2 million over four years to expand a partnership with Louisiana Tech University.

The new jobs will be in addition to a 350-job expansion announced in late 2009 as part of a separate incentives deal.

CenturyLink currently has about 1,970 employees in Louisiana. Prior to the close of the Qwest merger, the companies employed about 7,400 in Colorado.
