Legislative and government relations specialist Shirley Bloomfield has traded her job at one Networx telecommunications provider for a similar position at another.

This month, Bloomfield joined Verizon Communications Inc.’s federal relations office as vice president of federal government relations.

For the past two years, she was senior vice president of federal relations at Qwest Communications International Inc.’s Washington office.

Last summer, she answered questions from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on high-cost federal universal service support in rural areas.  She argued in favor of increasing Qwest’s share of federal assistance from the High Cost Support Mechanism fund for delivering services to sparsely populated areas in the 14 western states the telecom carrier serves.

Before joining Qwest, Bloomfield was vice president of government affairs and association services at the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association.

Verizon ranks No. 18 on Washington Technology’s 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
