Qwest Communications International Inc. is expanding its newest version of high-speed Internet to areas of the Phoenix and Tucson metros, the company announced Monday.

Denver-based Qwest (NYSE:Q) is rolling out the service, which offers 40 megabit-per-second download speeds and half that for upload in parts of Cave Creek, Higley, Laveen, Marana, Maricopa, Mesa, Oro Valley, Queen Creek, Tempe and Tucson. Qwest already has service in several local cities, among them Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Peoria Phoenix and Scottsdale.

The company began rolling out the upgraded service for its entire 14-state service area in July and has been adding territories over time. The service is available to about 3.5 million customers, officials said.
