Senate Leader Sees Progress on Pension Bill

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist
said on Monday there was progress on comprehensive pension
legislation and it could reach the chamber's floor by next week.
Senate leaders were ``very, very, very close'' to an agreement
to bring the bill to the floor, Frist, a Tennessee Republican,
told the Senate. ``We will be able to do that before
Thanksgiving (November 24) as well, if we continue to make the
progress that we've made over the last two weeks,'' he said.
The bill's chances improved last Thursday when two senators
lifted procedural objections to the measure. It rewrites rules
governing corporate pensions and seeks to improve the outlook
for the U.S. pension insurance agency, while granting relief to
